Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
